Message	by using the spacer. The whole reason was to get the inside of the spoke past the caliper. With the +22 you will now have the spoke past the caliper, and without a spacer, which is awesome. But I think you'll still be sticking out about the same distance overall (1mm less actually). The wheel expert may have been mostly concerned with clearing the caliper and not with how flush the wheel and tire is with the fender.
